Introduction

Colect.io addresses a critical challenge in the fashion industry: the inefficient wholesale ordering process. With over 10 years of experience, this specialized B2B sales platform has become a trusted partner for renowned labels like Gant, Hummel, Profuomo, and Denham.

Colect's core offering is a streamlined platform that allows resellers to easily browse collections and place orders, significantly simplifying the traditionally complex wholesale process. By digitizing and optimizing this crucial aspect of fashion retail, Colect helps brands increase sales while simultaneously reducing operational costs.

How we got here

Colect's move to fully embrace AWS in 2013 catapulted their business. However, this growth came withan unpleasant downside: a steep increase in cloud expenses. Despite leveragingcompute savings plans to maximize their AWS commitments, the company found itself at a crossroads.

Cloud costs grew into a substantial entry on theirP&L, leading Colect to explore alternative hosting solutions. The team considered various measures, from migrating to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to reverting toon-premises infrastructure. However, before making the expensive decision to change cloud platforms, they reached out to AWS for help. AWS recognized the unique challenges Colect faced and recommended CloudPhilos to explore the possibilities.

Quote:

“When AWS referred CloudPhilos to us, I was very sceptical. After meeting Mo and Robin for the first time at out offices this changed completely. Their expertise on AWS was nothing short of amazing.” – Pim Stolk // CTO @ Colect

What we did

CloudPhilos’ engineers analyzed Colect's cloud environment in just three days, uncovering two major areas ripe for optimization:

·       Databases

·       Networking

We presented Colect with a clear breakdown of potential savings, associated risks, and required efforts.Excited by the prospects, the engineering teams of Colect and CloudPhilos joined forces to craft an implementation plan. Within a month, we completed the database optimizations, instantly slashing $6,759 from Colect's monthly expenses. We gradually implemented the networking changes over the following months, though they were more complex due to necessary application-level modifications. The final result speak for themselves: we reduced Colect's monthly AWS bill by over $10,400 – a whopping43% cut! But here's the kicker: we didn't just slash costs, we boosted performance by approximately 20%. Cost/ peformance tradeoff? We don’t think so!

What’s next for Colect?

Thanks to our combined efforts, Colect continues to thrive on AWS, avoiding a costly and time-consuming migration. They're now enjoying optimized cloud costs while remaining a satisfied customer of both AWS and CloudPhilos. Interested in achieving similar results for your business? Let's talk.
